Evaluation
Friday, 08 April 2011

It is now almost three weeks ago that Totem has moved in with his new owners and we are back used to the silence in house. Time for an evaluation!

The pregnancy of Faylinn went this time very different than her first time.

From week 3-4 of pregnancy, she occasionally had cramps in her stomach. This resulted in a growl / scream that we heard earlier times, giving birth to her first litter (contractions), followed by heat signals like roll on the ground. We both knew, but we've never seen them in combination. Even her nipples were huge from that week! Similar to nipples of cats that have nursing kittens from a week or 5 old. Whether it was a phantom pregnancy has also regularly played in our heads.

Only when she was 8 weeks pregnant and we felt and saw something move we were confidence that she was pregnant.

On the predicted day Totem was born after a period of almost 24 hours labor and a broken night on the couch. For a moment we thought that there was perhaps one more in it, but it was soon clear that Faylinn was ready because she laid down and was happy with Totem.

As with her previous litter she once again had whipped cream ans milk! And because Totem had all nipples for himself and was not fussy he used them all grew really fast. Standard he weighed 200 grams more each week than any other Bengal kitten at his age weighed!

We expected Totem would miss siblings, but nothing was further from the truth! He had both his mother and his sister who loved to frolic with him and play. Also he could excellent entertain himself with for example the playing track, the tunnel or a self-invented game.

Also in terms of development he missed no encouraging brothers and sisters, because he only had to see something ones and he knew how it worked. This went on for drinking water, food, litter and use the track ball in the play in motion. But all when HE felt like it. ;-)

Totem had the energy of five kittens, but was also delicious when he fell asleep as a baby in your arms.

We have incredible enjoyed him and we still miss him big time...
